If you've got some extra time this holiday weekend, make sure that you've got your home ready for the Ohio winter weather that we have coming.
Cover your outdoor furniture and store the cushions in a dry area - Ohio winters can be tough on items left exposed to the weather. Make the most of your investment on by covering or moving outdoor items to areas with limited exposure to wind, snow, and ice.
Store away water hoses and shut off exterior faucets - Cycles of freezing and thawing water can damage hoses and faucets. It's best to complete this task earlier rather than later.
Check your batteries - Test your smoke alarms and make sure that you have a supply of batteries for flashlights in case of a winter storm.
Clear out space for coats, boots, and winter sports gear - If your closets and storage areas are overflowing it might be time for a dumpster rental. Check out our recent Donation vs Dumpster article for some help in determining what to donate and what to dispose of.
If you find that a dumpster rental might come in handy for your Ohio winter prep, give us a call at 614-866-3643. Or learn more about our dumpster options on our info page.

Donation vs Dumpster
If you're clearing out a home or basement you may have some items that you don't need but that still have some life left in them. If you'd prefer to not dispose of those items in your rented dumpster here's a few alternative options.
Charities - There are several national organizations that accept gently used furniture, household items, and clothing. If you prefer your donations to help people a little closer to home you may check with area churches and shelters that run programs helping people get back on their feet in the Indianapolis area.
Schools - Local schools may be able to use kids and young adult clothing for the nurses office and furniture items for their theater department. It's recommended to call and inquire about their needs prior to dropping off any items.
Scrap haulers - Your local town or city Facebook groups may have people that offer to come pick up some metal items for free or a small charge to cover their fuel. Once collected they break them down and sell the scrap metal.

Making The Most Of Your Dumpster Rental Period
Once you've reserved a dumpster from Bin There Dump That your next step is getting down to work. We've got some tips to consider for both during and after your project.
1. Schedule your start time - Make an appointment on your calendar, set a reminder, and when the alarm goes off, get to work. Don't let that looming mountain of stuff intimidate you. The best way to get your project completed is to get started without procrastinating.
2. Ask for help - While our roll-off dumpsters do have easy open doors on the end, heavy furniture and other items may still be a problem to move. Ask friends or a neighbor to give you a hand with helping you to move the heavy items.
3. Set aside items that can't go in to the dumpster - Pool, garden and household chemicals, tires, wet paint, and other explosive or dangerous items can not be placed in the dumpster. Many Columbus area communities run tox-away days for proper disposal of these types of items. If you ever have any question about if an item can be placed in the dumpster, please give us a call and let us know.
4. Call us if you're done early - Our rental agreement allows for a seven day rental however we are happy to pick-up the dumpster earlier if you'd like. Prior to our arrival please ensure that it's a level load and no items are sticking up or out of the dumpster. The doors must be shut and secured. Also we'll need clear access to the dumpster. Make sure that you've moved any cars or equipment out of the way to allow a clear path for our truck.
5. Enjoy the efforts of your hard work - Once your project has wrapped up, step back and take a look at what you have accomplished. If your sense of accomplishment has spurred plans for a new project, contact us and we'll help you schedule your next dumpster rental.
